The second San Diego locations of sister concepts Pop Pie Co. and Stella Jean's Ice Cream have unveiled in Point Loma.
Founded in San Diego's University Heights in 2016 by co-owners Steven Torres and Executive Chef Gan Suebsarakham, Pop Pie Co. quickly became a popular dining destination due to its ever-changing assortment of globally-inspired savory and sweet single-serving pies made with a signature all-butter crust. Pop Pie Co. originally signed on to take over the former Nati's Mexican space in Ocean Beach for its second location, but that deal fell through with the space now La Dona restaurant. In 2019, the second Pop Pie Co. opened in Costa Mesa in Orange County, CA. Torres and Suebsarakham also own and operate Stella Jean's Ice Cream - a small-batch ice cream parlor nextdoor to their pot-pie eatery in University Heights, which has another branch sited alongside the Costa Mesa Pop Pie Co. outpost.
Pop Pie Co. and Stella Jean's Ice Cream are now open in the 2,128 square-foot space that last housed The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf next to Cesarina on Voltaire Street on the outskirts of Point Loma and Ocean Beach. The new branch will help the joint concepts ramp up take-out and delivery in the beach areas. Like other branches, expect a menu featuring a selection of savory pies five inches in diameter and sweet pies served as hand pies, by the slice, and as full 9" pies, as well as a menu of house made ice cream, coffee and other refreshments. There is also a new selection of artisan, house-baked cookies.
The new Pop Pie Co. and Stella Jean's Ice Cream are now open from 10:30am to 7pm at 4195 Voltaire Street in San Diego's Point Loma. For more information, visit poppieco.com and stellajeans.com.
