Pizza On Pearl will make its triumphant return to La Jolla when it reopens later this year in its original space previously occupied by Mr. Moto Pizza House.
With recipe consultation from longtime San Diego chef, Jack Monaco, Pizza On Pearl was opened in fall 2009 by David Mittleman, who also operates Bongiorno’s New York Pizzeria in Solana Beach. Mittleman later sold the restaurant to Aram Baloyan, who also has ownership interests in The Taco Stand chain and La Jolla's Himitsu sushi restaurant. Baloyan's nephew is Gibran "Mr. Moto" Fernandez, who honed his craft working at Pizza on Pearl before opening the first Mr. Moto Pizza House in San Diego's Pacific Beach in 2015. The Mr. Moto concept has since expanded with locations in North Park, Point Loma, Ocean Beach, Seaport Village, Little Italy, and a new branch in Mission Valley.
Pizza On Pearl will go back to the original recipes and will once again be under the ownership of Aram Baloyan. Expect the return of the original menu with the same pricing, as well as a selection of beer and wine. Offerings will include a variety of signature white and red pizzas by the slice and whole pie, strombolis, calzones, and a meatball sub. Baloyan's nephew Andres Brambila will take over operations under his supervision.
Pizza On Pearl is anticipated to open on February 7 at 617 Pearl Street in San Diego's La Jolla. For more information, visit pizzaonpearl.com.
