After a nearly one-month closure due to a kitchen fire, Landini's Pizzeria will reopen this weekend in San Diego's Little Italy.
In the early morning hours of March 21, local firefighters were called to the Little Italy neighborhood in response to a fire at Landini's Pizzeria in downtown San Diego. At around 3:50am, firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the pizzeria. The crew had to force entry through the front of the restaurant and were able to contain the flames quickly before they could spread to nearby buildings. No injuries were reported, and officials reported that the fire was electrical and caused by a faulty refrigerator. The building sustained destruction estimated to be about $150,000, with additional damage totaling roughly $100,000. Since the closure, Landini's has been repaired and the popular pizzeria, along with its second story full-service restaurant Ristorante Illando, will reopen this weekend.
Florence-native Leo Landini started his San Diego culinary career in 2005 as the general manager of what was then the oldest Italian restaurant in the Gaslamp, the now-defunct Trattoria La Strada. In 2008, Landini took over the former Pizzeria Luigi in Little Italy and opened his namesake eatery. In 2016, he repurposed the second tier space above his pizzeria and launched full-service restaurant Ristorante Illando, and in 2018, Landini launched a small-scale eatery inside the Liberty Public Market in Point Loma's Liberty Station. In fall 2020, Landini unveiled his newest and largest restaurant to date, Scuderia Italia in Pacific Beach.
Landini's Pizzeria and Ristorante Illando will both reopen this Friday, April 15, at 1827 India Street in San Diego's Little Italy. Follow the company on Facebook for updates.
