San Diego-based culinary non-profit Kitchens For Good is hosting a free-to-attend Save The Food Festival to celebrate the end of Earth Month at its first retail storefront in Pacific Beach.
Close out Earth Month with Kitchen For Good's Save the Food Fest on Saturday April 30th, from 11am to 2:00pm. The free event will include information for people to learn food waste reduction tips and tricks while enjoying tasty zero-waste treats from San Diego chefs known for their sustainability practices.
There will also be educational booths by local environmental nonprofits with demonstrations and resources to help people understand how to comply with Senate Bill 1383 (a new state law requiring food waste reduction). Local chefs will offer up delicious small bites and products from local upcycling small business vendors will be available for sampling and purchase. There will also be inventive mocktails and upbeat music. Taking place at the new Kitchens for Good Shop in Pacific Beach, attendees will also have the chance to browse the store’s diverse collection of pre-loved kitchenware items, with the proceeds from all sales going to benefit Kitchens for Good programs.
"If every San Diegan saved just one pound of food from going to waste each month, in one year the carbon savings would be the equivalent of planting 600,000 trees or having 8,000 fewer cars on the road!" explained Kitchens For Good Communications Manager Maggie McDermott. "Plus, the average family of four could save $1,500 per year! The Shop is an ideal location for Save the Food Fest as it stewards sustainability by keeping tens of thousands of items out of landfills and ensures that items which have been too loved to sell get recycled."
