San Diego's 6-year-old North Park Beer Company is growing beyond its namesake neighborhood and has broken ground on what will be a new taproom & restaurant in the Bankers Hill community.
North Park Beer Company was first operated out of founder Kelsey McNair's garage before the full-scale brewery unveiled in mid-2016 on the craft-beer saturated University Avenue in the heart of San Diego's North Park. As a home brewer, McNair racked up prestigious awards with his Hop-Fu! IPA becoming the most award-winning home brew recipe in state history. Last September, North Park Beer's Art is Hard Hazy IPA won a silver medal at the prestigious Great American Beer Festival.
This week, North Park Brewing Company broke ground on the company's first satellite tasting room on the base floor of Secoya by the Park, a mixed-use building being constructed by Bishop Ventures on the corner of 5th Avenue and Redwood Street in Bankers Hill. Once finished, Secoya will be an 8-story, 103 micro-unit apartment building with 2,000 square-feet of ground floor retail space, located just steps from Balboa Park. In addition to two dozen taps of North Park Beer craft brews, the new tasting room will have an onsite kitchen with a menu of tavern fare like smash burgers, salads, fries and full entrees.
The new North Park Brewing Company tasting room is anticipated to open at 3067 Fifth Avenue in San Diego's Bankers Hill by Halloween 2022 but could be delayed until early 2023.
