New York City-based Lady M Cake Boutique, known for its world famous Mille Crêpes cake, has opened its first San Diego location.
Lady M Cake Boutique was started in 2001 as a wholesale bakery business delivering cakes to hotels and restaurants in New York City. The company was founded by Emi Wada, a baker who invented her signature Mille Crêpes cake and sold them in her Paper Moon Cake Boutiques in Japan starting in 1985. By 2004, the Lady M cakes became so popular that the company opened its first retail store in Manhattan. Wada eventually gave up ownership of Lady M so she could concentrate on her business in her home country of Japan, and current Lady M CEO Ken Romaniszyn joined the business in 2008, expanding the company to more than 50 locations worldwide.
"I grew up in Orange County, so Southern California has always been home for me," explained Lady M CEO Ken Romaniszyn. "With the amount of support we have received from our Lady M Irvine location, we knew that there was a demand for Lady M in San Diego and we are thrilled to see it come to life."
Earlier this year, Lady M took over the space that last housed a Godiva retail shop within Westfield UTC mall in La Jolla for the opening of the company's first San Diego location. Like other branches, the store offers a rotating menu of specialty cakes and confections, including several flavors of the famous Mille Crêpes, made with 20 thin, handmade French crêpes layered with pastry cream and topped with a caramelized crust. Crepe cakes are available in slices, 6-inch and 9-inch sizes with flavors ranging from original to chocolate, as well as green tea, pistachio, tiramisu, and seasonal varieties like red velvet and butter pecan.
Lady M is now open at 4545 La Jolla Village Dr, Suite H-9, within Westfield UTC in La Jolla. For more information, visit ladym.com.
