With five San Diego locations already in operation, New York City-based Shake Shack is planning its first area branch with a drive-thru ordering system, set to open later this year at a former Souplantation space.
Shake Shack is a critically-acclaimed, modern day "roadside" burger stand known for its 100% all-natural Angus beef burgers, chicken sandwiches, griddled flat-top dogs, frozen custards, crispy crinkle cut fries and more. Shake Shack has earned a cult-like following and currently has more than 230 stores around the U.S. with five branches dotted around San Diego County, sited in Westfield UTC mall, Mission Valley, Del Mar's One Paseo, Little Italy and The Beacon La Costa in Carlsbad. There is also a Shake Shack restaurant in the works for Westfield Plaza Bonita mall in National City and rumors of a branch being planned for the former Five Guys space in Pacific Beach.
The newest San Diego Shake Shack will open replace the building that long housed a Souplantation within Mira Mesa Shopping Center. Expect a 3,510 square-foot interior with a drive-thru window and a 1,122 square-foot outdoor patio. In keeping with the company's commitment to green architecture and eco-friendly construction, the new Mira Mesa branch will be built using a large percentage of reclaimed and sustainable materials.
