A former owner of now-defunct Brian's 24 has opened a breakfast speakeasy named Morning Muse inside a longtime Chinese restaurant in San Diego's North County.
Along with her husband Sean, Chelsea Cahan operated iconic downtown San Diego diner concept Brian's 24 from June 2018 until the restaurant shuttered in summer 2022. The couple has also been part of the ownership team at Del Mar Rendezvous Chinese restaurant, which first opened in 2004 on the base floor of Del Mar Plaza, since December 2016.
During morning hours for the past several months, Del Mar Rendezvous has operated as Morning Muse, a "breakfast speakeasy" outfitted in pink and green with kitschy images and sayings on the wall. The menu is centered around over-the-top American breakfast dishes, including stuffed French Toast, waffles, sandwiches, Benedicts, hotcakes, and more. Highlights include the berry stuffed French Toast, the Monte Cristo sandwich, the pork belly Benedict, and the traditional Japanese Souffle pancakes. There is also a variety of unique coffee drinks like the Buzzed Barbie with espresso, pink oat milk, vanilla syrup and pink cold phone; and Butterfly Matcha Bliss with Butterfly pea tea, vanilla syrup, matcha and sweet cream, all topped with rock candy.
Morning Muse is now open Thursday through Sunday from 8am to 3pm at 1555 Camino Del Mar in San Diego's North County city of Del Mar. For more information, follow Morning Muse on Instagram.
