Australia-Born MRKT SPACE Cafe To Bring New San Diego Location To Balboa Park Area

March 8, 2023

A third area location of Australia-born MRKT SPACE combination cafe, bar and gourmet market concept is in the works for San Diego's Balboa Park-adjacent area of Bankers Hill.

MRKT SPACE is an upscale convenient store, bottle shop, cafe, bar and all-day restaurant concept first opened in 2019 in the Leighton Beach area of Australia. The first San Diego branch opened in fall 2020 within the 3,100 square-foot ground floor suite at the The Beacons mixed-use development on Highway 101 in Encinitas. A second area outpost unveiled last year as part of the new Whitney mixed-use development in La Jolla Shores.

The MRKT SPACE concept serves an all-day menu of Italian-inspired dishes, featuring breakfast items, sandwiches, flatbreads and charcuterie boards, as well as bakery items such as pastries, cakes, croissants, biscuits and muffins. The market also sells a curated selection of groceries, including a variety of organic and vegan items, produce, fresh baked bread, eggs, and cured meats and cheeses. There is also a full bar with wine, beer and spirits, which are also available to-go from a luxury bottle shop, as well as a cafe component with espresso and coffee drinks. The San Diego locations are operated by Encinitas local Matthew Power.

The third San Diego outpost of MRKT Space is anticipated to open by year's end at 2765 Fifth Avenue, Suite 10, in San Diego's Bankers Hill neighborhood. For more information, visit mrktspace.com and check out the sample menu below.
