Del Mar's Beeside Balcony restaurant is ready to open a new location in San Diego's La Jolla, unveiling next week in the second story, 2,500 square-foot space last occupied by Sushi on the Rock.
Mary Arabatzis founded Beeside Balcony in the mezzanine space above what was then PrepKitchen Del Mar in 2016, offering a Mediterranean-influenced menu paired with Pacific ocean views. In January 2020, the restaurant was purchased by Chef Christophe Cevasco, a 3rd generation chef of Spanish and Italian descent with four decades of cooking experience in restaurants around the world, including Le Cirque, Eiffel Tower, and Valentino’s in Las Vegas and locally as a managing partner of Eddie V’s Prime Seafood in La Jolla.
In 2021, Chef Christophe found the perfect spot to open a second Beeside Balcony. Like the flagship restaurant, the former Sushi on the Rock restaurant in the heart of La Jolla offers a mezzanine vantage point with sprawling views of the sea from its open air balcony and interior. In addition to Chef Chris, the opening team includes Chef de Cuisine Enrique Aguilar and General Manager Guenevere Cevasco.
Beeside Balcony will grand open in La Jolla on Monday, April 3. Like the original eatery, expect a Mediterranean-inspired menu with a French influence. At Beeside, dishes are made using produce sourced from local farms, organic meats, sushi-grade seafood, imported items, and Chef Chris's own farm-raised honey used for all drink and food recipes. The restaurant will have an outdoor patio and its own parking lot under the buiding with an elevator. The restaurant will also offer a full bar with cocktails, beer and wine, as well as an onsite speakeasy dubbed "The Hive" that will open later this spring.
The new Beeside Balcony will be located at 1025 Prospect Street, Suite 250, in La Jolla. Starting April 3, the restaurant will be open for lunch from 11am to 4pm and dinner from 4pm to 9pm Monday through Sunday. Happy hour is Monday through Friday from 3-5pm.
