San Diego's popular Mr. Shawarma Halal food truck has opened its first brick-and-mortar restaurant with a second location already in the works.
In December 2018, food enthusiast, shawarma lover & a chemical engineer Mohammed Mahdawi unveiled his first Mr. Shawarma food truck in a gas station parking lot in the Crown Point section of San Diego's Pacific Beach. The entirely Halal eatery quickly had hungry patrons lining up to get a taste of dishes like beef shawarma, chicken shawarma, falafel, and the Habibi burger. A second Mr. Shawarma food truck eventually launched in El Cajon.
Mr. Shawarma has now opened their first brick-and-mortar restaurant in the building that last housed Tortilla N Taco Factory in San Diego's East County community of El Cajon. In addition to a menu of shawarma wraps made with spit-roasted meats and fresh made falafel, the new location also offers customizable kumpir, which is Turkish baked potato served with a variety of toppings and condiments. In addition to the El Cajon eatery, Mr. Shawarma is also working on opening a restaurant on Garnet Avenue in the heart of Pacific Beach.
