San Diego Sushi Master Opens New Japanese Omakase Restaurant In Linda Vista

April 12, 2023

A sushi master who has worked for San Diego's Michelin-starred Sushi Tadokoro and Soichi Sushi has opened omakase-exclusive Japanese restaurant Sushi Ichifuji in Clairemont.

Masato Fujita previously worked at some of San Diego's top sushi restaurants, including Sushi Tadokoro in Old Town, Soichi Sushi in University Heights, and Akinori Sushi in Hillcrest. Fujita's family previously ran a century-old sushi bar in Osaka, Japan. While working at Taka Sushi in downtown San Diego, Fujita met Chef Hiroshi Ichikawa. The duo recently partnered and took over the former Sushi Diner space in San Diego's Clairemont/Linda Vista area for the opening of Sushi Ichifuji.

After modernizing and updating the former Sushi Diner space, Sushi Ichifuji has quietly opened with a 10 seat sushi bar, and the restaurant will eventually offer a la carte dining on its a front patio. The space offers two seatings per evening, with an eight course, $160 omakase option that changes with the seasons. There is also a $140 menu that focuses more on nigiri courses, as well as a curated selection of sake, shochu, beer and wine.

Sushi Ichifuji is now open at 7530 Mesa College Drive, Suite B, in San Diego's Clairemont neighborhood. For more information, visit ichifujisushi.com.
