The popular San Diego-born healthy breakfast & lunch destination Swami's Cafe will return to the Hillcrest community with a new location opening in the space last occupied by Esca Blu restaurant.
Owner Jaime Osuna opened his first Swami's Cafe location on Highway 101 in Encinitas in 2005, offering a breakfast and lunch menu centered around healthier options and dishes made with fresh local ingredients. Osuna has since opened and closed several additional Swami's outposts in San Diego County, including operating branches still in business in Carlsbad, Vista, Escondido, Del Sur, La Mesa, North Park, Oceanside, Solana Beach, Point Loma and two in Encinitas - plus Honey's Bistro & Bakery in Encinitas. The former Hillcrest location was transformed into the first branch of Cocina de Barrio, which Osuna previously operated in partnership with Chef Jose Flores.
Swami's is returning to Hillcrest and taking over the space that last housed Chef Jose Flores's Italian restaurant Esca Blu, which closed this past December after only six months in business. Like other locations, the new Hillcrest outpost of Swami's Cafe will offer a menu centered around all-day-breakfast and lunch dishes, with items ranging from acai bowls and smoothies to bacon burgers and vegetarian & vegan offerings. The new location will also feature dinner dishes like stuffed chicken breast, fish & chips, seafood cioppino, and an array of pasta and entrees.
Swami's Cafe is anticipated to debut at 3650 5th Avenue, Suite 103, in San Diego's Hillcrest as early as this summer. For more information, visit swamiscafe.com.
