Long Awaited Randy's Donuts Opens First San Diego Location

May 3, 2023

Los Angeles' iconic Randy's Donuts has finally unveiled its first of nearly a dozen locations set to open around San Diego County.

Founded in 1952 and best known for its 33-foot giant donut sculpture on the roof of its original location, Randy's Donuts signed a franchise development deal with San Diego native Emilio Tamez that includes 10 stores to open around San Diego County in the coming years. Tamez also owns and operates Taqueria Revolución and is the founder of Sadie's Hand-Crafted Ice Cream in Bonita. Mark Kelegian, a Los Angeles-area entrepreneur and former attorney, purchased Randy's in 2015 to franchise the concept with his family. Randy’s Donuts began franchising domestically in summer of 2019.

The first San Diego location of Randy's Donuts grand opened today within Stonecrest Plaza in Kearny Mesa. Like other branches, customers will find over 60 different varieties of donuts along with Randy’s Rounds (Randy’s Donuts much larger version of a donut hole) and more, as well as a large selection of coffee drinks. The new San Diego location also offers a unique menu item called Sadie's Sandwich, which is a fresh Randy's donut stuffed with Sadie's Handcrafted Mexican Ice Cream baked inside. While there is not a giant donut statue atop the first San Diego branch, there is a smaller-scale version hanging inside as part of a wall mural.

Randy's Donuts has been featured in such movies and television programs as HBO's Entourage, Iron Man 2, Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles, and the music video for Red Hot Chili Pepper's "Californication," to name a few.

Randy's Donuts is now open at 3737 Murphy Canyon Road, Suite A, in San Diego's Kearny Mesa neighborhood. For more information, visit randysdonuts.com.
