May 26, 2023San Diego's Urban Kitchen Group has listed for lease its Michelin-recognized Cucina Sorella restaurant in Kensington.
Over the past 27 years, Tracy Borkum's Urban Kitchen Group has earned a reputation as a leader in the Southern California hospitality industry. The company operates Cucina Urbana in Bankers Hill, Cucina Sorella in Kensington, Artifact at Mingei, Gold Finch Modern Jewish Deli in Torrey Pines, and Cucina Enoteca locations in Del Mar, Irvine, and Newport Beach. Last year, Urban Kitchen Group acquired Waters Fine Foods Cafe in Bay Park, which is being used as a new catering and commissary kitchen. This past February after a year in development, Tracy Borkum and Chef-Partner Tim Kolanko opened their market-inspired and modern coastal cooking restaurant The Kitchen at the newly renovated Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.
Urban Kitchen Group's Cucina Sorella restaurant is now marketed for lease by San Diego commercial real estate brokerage Location Matters. Opened in 2016, Cucina Sorella is a modern Italian restaurant that was awarded with Michelin Guide California value-oriented Bib Gourmand recognition starting in 2019. Prior to becoming Cucina Sorella, the space long housed Borkum's original restaurant, Kensington Grill, a bistro with a kitchen helmed by Carnitas Snack Shack founding chef Hanis Cavin. The lease is about to end on the 3,554 square-foot eatery and Borkum is not renewing so the landlord is seeking a new tenant. Cucina Sorella is set to permanently close in early July. We reached out to Tracy Borkum for comment but did not receive a response by the time of publishing.
