A viral video making its way around the Internet shows a heated and nearly violent interaction between an infuriated customer and a San Diego taco shop employee.
A video first posted on TikTok by user @brendapena783 has amassed hundreds of thousands of views on multiple platforms. In it, an irate, female customer of Lucha Libre Taco Shop at 1810 Washington Street in San Diego's Middletown neighborhood is seen screaming at a female employee.
The customer, who has since been dubbed the "Taco Shop Karen," proceeds to call the employee a "f*cking b!tch" and a "c&nt", screams at her repeatedly demanding a "receipt," pointing to the paper in the employee's hands, then attempts to physically grab it. The video begins in the midst of the interaction and ends when the employees threaten to call the police and demand the customer leave the store. There is no word on if any charges have been filed following the incident. We reached out to the customer and Lucha Libre Taco Shop representatives for more information and comment but did not receive a response by the time of publishing.
Based on an apparent Yelp review posted by the customer's alleged husband, her side of the story is a Lucha Libre employee overcharged the customer and used her credit card to make purchases. She was allegedly "provoked and treated unfairly." A review of Lucha Libre Gourmet Taco Shop's Yelp page reveals a history of several customer complaints about the restaurant overcharging.
The employee also posted her side on the web, stating that the receipt in question was actually an internal ticket from the customer's online order and that the customer already had her receipt emailed and/or texted to her. The employee further claims the customer was demanding a full refund but only returned a portion of the original order.
Internet sleuth @thatdaneshguy has since identified the customer, who thereafter deleted or deactivated her own social media accounts.
