Black Plague Brewing Opening New Tasting Room & Restaurant In San Diego's North Park

June 10, 2023

North County's 6-year-old Black Plague Brewing is opening a new, gothic-inspired taproom with an onsite restaurant in San Diego's North Park.

Black Plague Brewing was founded by former pro-skateboarder Jordan Hoffart and Jarred Doss in Oceanside, CA in 2017. Last year, after a long search, Black Plague opened a 2,400 square-foot tasting room and restaurant dubbed the "Purgatory Lounge" in downtown Escondido.

Black Plague was previously set to open a taproom in North Park but that deal fell through during the early days of the pandemic. The company has now secured a lease on the 1,700 square-foot unit that previously housed Rouleur Brewing Company and the short-lived Belgian Beer and Waffle restaurant before that.

It is believe that for the North Park location, Black Plague will eventually join forces with its longtime pop-up food partner Full Metal Burgers, who has a food truck onsite at the Oceanside location and manages the onsite kitchen in Escondido. Expect a macabre-design and a menu of American tavern fare like sandwiches and appetizers complimented by a handful of taps devoted to signature Black Plague beers like Bring Out Your Dead American IPA, Tony Hawps West Coast IPA, and In My Darkest Sour. There is no hood in the kitchen at the property, so this may limit food offerings.

Black Plague Brewing is anticipated to open by year's end at 2899 University Avenue in San Diego's North Park. For more information, visit blackplaguebrewing.com.
