The owner of Breakfast Republic and Fig Tree Cafe is nearly ready to unveil Mission Valley Breakfast Company in San Diego's Mission Valley area.
Swedan native Johan Engman entered the breakfast game with his first Fig Tree Cafe in Pacific Beach in 2008. Since then, his Rise & Shine Restaurant Group opened several additional Fig Tree locations and packs the house at sixteen outposts of his Breakfast Republic concept. The first branch of his Breakfast Company concept opened in North Park in spring 2019, but permanently shuttered after only a year in business. Engman also operates Gaslamp Breakfast Company in downtown San Diego.
Mission Valley Breakfast Company is expected to open later this month in the Rio Vista Shopping Center in Mission Valley. The 3,200 square-foot restaurant will serve a similar menu of costly, overindulgent breakfast foods as Engman's other morning-focused concepts, with a design featuring signature egg chairs, a living wall with kitschy phrasing, and community seating options. This location will also boast a full bar with cocktails, mimosa drinks and craft beer.
