Previously operated for several years purely as a food truck, San Diego's popular Mr. Shawarma Halal has opened its second area brick-and-mortar restaurant, this time in Pacific Beach.
In December 2018, food enthusiast, shawarma lover & a chemical engineer Mohammed Mahdawi unveiled his first Mr. Shawarma food truck in a gas station parking lot in the Crown Point section of San Diego's Pacific Beach. The entirely Halal eatery quickly had hungry patrons lining up to get a taste of dishes like spit-roasted beef and chicken shawarma, falafel, and the Habibi burger. A second Mr. Shawarma food truck eventually launched in El Cajon. This past April, Mr. Shawarma opened their first brick-and-mortar restaurant in the building that last housed Tortilla N Taco Factory in San Diego's East County community of El Cajon.
Mr. Shawarma has opened a new, fast-casual restaurant in the long-dormant, central Garnet Avenue space that last housed Sinbad's Cafe & Hookah Bar. In addition to a menu of shawarma wraps made with spit-roasted meats and fresh made falafel, the new location also offers customizable kumpir, which is Turkish baked potato served with a variety of toppings and condiments.
