Orange County-based Mokkoji Shabu Shabu Bar will bring do-it-yourself Japanese hot pot to San Diego when it opens its first area location next year.
Founded in Irvine, CA, in 2012 by Chef Tommy Kim, Mokkoji Shabu Shabu Bar offers an ever-evolving, customizable menu of Japanese hot pot noodle soup made with seasonal and high-end ingredients. The company currently has three locations in Orange County and will open its first San Diego branch within the shopping plaza that houses Seafood City Supermarket in Mira Mesa. Based on the success of the first San Diego outpost, more locations are expected to open around the county.
Named after the Korean term for "getting together to have a feast," Mokkoji offers diners many options of broth, as well as sliced meat like premium Black Angus beef and Rangers Valley Halal Australian Wagyu beef, and seafood options including Gulf white shrimp, Scottish salmon, Diver scallops, and Maine lobster. The restaurant also offers specials for 2 and an array of small plates like Drunken chicken wings, garlic shrimp, edamame, shishito peppers and assorted pickled veggies. From the bar, expect a variety of draft and bottle beer, soju, hot & cold sake, wines and soft drinks.
Mokkoji Shabu Shabu Bar is anticipated to open in early 2024 at 8981 Mira Mesa Boulevard in San Diego's Mira Mesa neighborhood. For more information, visit mokkojishabu.com and check out the menu below.
