This summer, San Diego's historic Hotel Del Coronado is adding a new barbecue restaurant and classic bar named Smokehouse & Bar at The Laundry.
Currently being constructed within the property's onsite laundry building, Smokehouse & Bar at The Laundry will offer a barbecue-style menu featuring an array of slow smoked meats, including pulled pork, brisket, jalapeño sausage, ribs, and chicken, as well as dishes like smoked poutine with smoked cheese curds, smoked queso dip, and smoked corn fritters. Most food will be prepared inside an onsite food truck with smoker.

Smokehouse & Bar at The Laundry will also house an 1880s-restored wooden bar serving Prohibition-inspired craft cocktails, wine, and San Diego beer, cider, hard seltzers and kombucha. When the new restaurant unveils this summer, patrons will be invited to dine outside on the lawn and watch the action at the barbecue pit or inside the historic brick building beneath vaulted ceilings and the Laundry's original conveyor system.
Hotel Del's Laundry building was originally built in 1919 and was powered entirely by steam. In addition taking care of laundry needs for the hotel, there was a fleet of five trucks that served Coronado Island residents until public service ceased in 1973. The building was restored in 2021 as part of the resort's $400 million renovation, which revealed original brickwork, the original conveyor system tracks above the restored wood floors, and exposed signage dating back to 1925, which will be displayed near the bar.
