The space that last housed a branch of Farmer's Table in San Diego's Bay Park will soon reopen as La Pastaia, a female-owned, Venetian-style Italian bar & restaurant.
Meaning "The Pasta Lady" in Italian, La Pastaia is the product of Italian-born owners Priscilla Scardina and Maria Lo Cascio, who both moved to San Diego from Sicily in their early 20s. Priscilla has been making fresh pasta since she was taught by her mother at only four years of age. Maria is the restaurant's lead floor manager and throughout the past couple months has led the design team in transforming the former Farmer's Table space into something reminiscent of her family's eateries. Throughout the design phase, Maria actively contributed her expertise and took inspiration from her family's restaurant in Sicily with Venetian-like attributes implemented throughout the space.
La Pastaia will offer a menu centered around handmade pasta, but will also offer Neapolitan-style pizza, entrees, and Italian veggie dishes. Some of Priscilla's favorites that bring memories from her childhood include mafalde al barca with homemade marinara and ricotta cheese served in a roasted eggplant, and the spigola dish, which is a freshly-caught, herb-crusted sea bass served with champagne emulsion. Pasta specials will be inspired by and named after celebrities, like the Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner pasta. The restaurant will also have a full bar with cocktails, beer and wine.
La Pastaia will soft open on Monday, June 5, at 3055 Clairemont Drive in San Diego's Bay Park/Clairemont neighborhood. For more information, follow La Pastaia on Instagram.
