Nicknamed the "Mexican Hooters," Texas-based Ojos Locos Sports Cantina will open its first San Diego location.
Ojos Locos, which is Spanish for "crazy eyes," is a Mexican restaurant and sports bar concept founded in Dallas, TX, in 2010 by restaurateurs including Randy DeWitt, the owner of the parent company that previously founded fellow 'breastaurant,' Twin Peaks. The opening of the first Ojos Locos restaurant coincided with the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and the chain has always been dedicated to showing International and domestic soccer matches at all its locations. Now with over two dozen branches sited mostly in Texas, the chain is known for its waitresses called "chicas," who usually speak English and Spanish and wear revealing uniforms.
Despite strong opposition from the community, the first California location of Ojos Locos is in the process of opening in the Southeast Los Angeles city of Downey. The San Diego branch will be the state's second and open in the space currently occupied by Buffet House within Palomar Commerce shopping center in West Chula Vista. Like other branches, expect a menu of Mexican-American cuisine including appetizers, salads, burgers, sandwiches, wings, tacos, fajitas, and entrees, as well as a full bar.
