Nearly a year after the unveiling of its first brick-and-mortar location, San Diego birria specialist Mike’s Red Tacos is working on opening its second area restaurant.
Launched as a food truck in June 2021, Mike's Red Tacos quickly became a weekend destination for its Saturday food truck pop-up on Morena Boulevard in San Diego's Bay Park community. The brand is the product of Michael Touma, who decided to take his obsession with slow-cooked beef birria to the next level with the opening of his eatery. In summer 2022, Touma unveiled his first brick-and-mortar eatery within Liberty Park Plaza in San Diego's Clairemont community.
The second area branch of Mike's Red Taco will open in a 2,100 square-foot space within Loma Square shopping center in Point Loma. Like the original, expect a menu centered around slow stewed beef birria, with items like tacos with consomé broth for dipping, birria ramen noodle soup, mulitas, burritos, smothered fries, nachos, quesadillas, and the signature Taco Bell-inspired birria Crunchstack.
