The Godfather has been purchased by local restaurateurs and longtime business partners Salvatore Ercolano and Gilbert Frank. In 2022, the pair purchased The Butcher Shop steakhouse in Kearny Mesa and last year they took over San Diego's iconic Studio Diner. Ercolano also owns West End Bar & Kitchen in Del Mar, and he previously operated Bella Luna and Paper Moon restaurants in San Diego's Gaslamp, Villa Capri and Flora Bar in Carmel Valley, Torrey Club Café in La Jolla, Come-On-In Cafes in several communities in San Diego, and Seasalt Seafood Bistro in Del Mar.
In the fall on 1974, The Godfather Restaurant was opened in Clairemont Mesa Boulevard by native Italian Chef Isidoro Balistreri and his wife Maria. The restaurant serves up Italian favorites for lunch and dinner, including antipasti, pasta, and a selection of entrees. New ownership intends to maintain the eatery's devotion to Northern and Southern Italian family recipes.
