San Diego's Mabel's Gone Fishing Restaurant Awarded With Value-Oriented Bib Gourmand Designation In Michelin Guide California

July 11, 2023

French tire company Michelin today announced 10 new selection of Bib Gourmand establishments for the 2023 Michelin Guide California, and Mabel's Gone Fishing restaurant in San Diego's North Park has been added to the highly anticipated list.

Originally introduced in 1997, the Michelin Bib Gourmand category highlights restaurants that serve high-quality meals which include two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less per person. In addition to the exceptional restaurants distinguished by star awards ranging from 1-3 stars, Michelin inspectors take pride in finding hidden gems to complete the selection that are more widely accessible for diners, whatever their budget or craving. As a trusted source for gastronomy lovers worldwide for more than 120 years, Michelin publishes 32 Guides annually in more than two dozen countries, including four Guides in the United States.

This year, California has added 10 new Bib Gourmands, including San Diego restaurant Mabel's Gone Fishing in North Park. Chelsea Marlene Coleman and Rae Ellen Gurne, who have operated The Rose Wine Bar in San Diego's South Park community since 2010, opened Mabel's Gone Fishing in the heart of North Park in September 2022. Named after Coleman's dog, the restaurant serves an eclectic, seafood-forward global-inspired menu with a Mediterranean focus, a curated list of natural wines from Europe and California, and a devotion to gin spirits and area beer.

Mabel’s is now among the 143 Bib Gourmand restaurants in California, which are defined by Michelin as restaurants that "offer a meal of good quality at a good value." In the past, other San Diego restaurants awarded a Bib Gourmand include Callie in the East Village, Cesarina in Point Loma, Ciccia Osteria in Barrio Logan, Dija Mara in Oceanside, Morning Glory in Little Italy, Campfire in Carlsbad, Cucina Sorella in Kensington (since closed), Cucina Urbana in Bankers Hill, El Jardin in Liberty Staton (since closed), Juniper & Ivy in Little Italy, Kettner Exchange in Little Italy, Lola 55 in San Diego's East Village, and Solare Ristorante in Liberty Station.

Mabel's Gone Fishing is located at 3770 30th Street in San Diego's North Park. For more information, visit mabelsgonefishing.com.
