Sbicca Restaurant Transferring To New Ownership In San Diego's North County City Of Del Mar

July 20, 2023

After 25 years under the same ownership, Sbicca restaurant in Del Mar is in the process of selling to new owners, which includes a San Diego native chef.

Sbicca restaurant opened in the heart of San Diego's coastal Del Mar by then husband-and-wife Dan & Chef Susan Sbicca in summer 1998. The couple opened sister restaurant Meritage Restaurant & Bar in Encinitas in 2002, which has since closed. Susan left the company in 2009. Over its 25 year tenure, Sbicca has become a destination for its menu of fresh California cuisine complimented by views of the Pacific Ocean and downtown Del Mar.

Sbicca is in the process of being taken over by Chef Craig Jimenez and Jeffrey Midlam. Midlam has long been a roaming general manager around Los Angeles. Chef Craig Jimenez has worked all around San Diego, including most recently as Culinary Director of Social Syndicate Hospitaly Group where he oversaw the kitchen at nearby Monarch Social Club within Del Mar Plaza. A San Diego native raised in Paradise Hills, Chef Jimenez has also worked as Executive Chef Consultant at Little Italy's Craft & Commerce, as Executive Chef at The Guild Hotel, and as a chef and partner at SuperNatural Sandwiches. Jimenez remains with Social Syndicate at this time.

There is no word what changes, if any, will take place when new ownership takes over at Sbicca later this year. We reached out to Chef Jimenez and the Sbicca team for comment but did not receive a response by the time of publishing.

Sbicca is located at 215 15th Street in Del Mar. For more information, visit sbiccadelmar.com.
