Lolita's Mexican Food To Shutter Petco Park-Adjacent Downtown San Diego Location

September 6, 2023

A favorite destination before or after Petco Park events, Lolita's Mexican Food will soon shutter its downtown San Diego location after 14 years in business.

Opening the doors to their first location in 1984, Lolita’s holds over 50 combined years of Mexican food industry knowledge. Joaquin and Dolores "Lolita" Farfan opened their first restaurant in Chula Vista in 1984. The family-run restaurant now has six locations around San Diego County. The restaurants offer traditional Mexican taco shop staples like quesadillas, nachos, smothered fries, tacos, burritos and entrees.

The Lolita's location on the base floor of the Park Terrace Condominiums right outside San Diego Padres Petco Park will close after end of service on September 24 after the last Padres' home game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The restaurant decided not to renew there lease and instead depart their only downtown San Diego outpost. The restaurant pointed to the pandemic, staffing issues, and safety concerns related to the ongoing homeless crisis as reasons for abandoning the downtown location. Lolita's at the Park first opened in January 2009.

"We have had a great run, but it is time to close this chapter and move forward," explained Lolita's President Dolores C. Jackson. "We still have five other locations in San Diego County to serve new guests and long time regulars. We look forward to celebrating 40 years of business in January of 2024!"

Lolita's Mexican Food at the Park is located at 202 Park Boulevard in downtown San Diego's East Village. For more information, visit lolitasmexicanfood.com.
