Four years in the making, the team behind National City's Machete Beer House has finally unveiled La Nacional, a new Mexican bar & restaurant now open in San Diego's South Bay city of Chula Vista.
Machete Beer House first opened in San Diego's National City in February 2015 with craft beer enthusiasts Eddie Trejo and Joann Cornejo at the helm. In 2019, the team announced they would be bringing a new Mexican restaurant & bar named La Nacional to the heart of Chula Vista.
After several years of development, La Nacional has opened on Third Avenue in the heart of Chula Vista. The family-friendly venue focusing on Mexican spirits, cerveza, and "comida tradicional" from Executive Chef Alvaro Hernandez, who previously led the kitchen at Eddie V's Prime Seafood in downtown San Diego. Expect a variety of appetizers, sides, salads, tacos, as well as weekend brunch options that include breakfast burritos, chilaquiles, Angus beef birria and more. From the bar, expect a devotion to craft beer, Micheladas, mimosas ,as well as craft cocktails curated by Felipe "Pipo" Lopez, who is a lead bartender at Born & Raised steakhouse in Little Italy.
