San Diego Design Guru Paul Basile Bringing Roseacre Bar & Restaurant To La Jolla

October 2, 2023

Known for his design work on many San Diego hotspots, including Polite Provisions and Raised By Wolves, Paul Basile is opening a swanky new bar & restaurant named Roseacre in the heart of La Jolla.

Paul Basile founded his Basile Studio in San Diego in 1994, and the hospitality-based design firm has since helped to fabricate some of the city's most popular restaurants and hotels. Basile's portfolio includes such San Diego destinations as Puesto in Mission Valley, Morning Glory, Broadstone Makers Quarter, Polite Provisions, North Park Beer, Raised By Wolves, Underbelly North Park, Encontro, Born & Raised, Kindred, Cowboy Star, Craft & Commerce, The Nolen, and Ironside Fish & Oyster. Basile has teamed up with longtime friend, collaborator, and fellow area designer Jules Wilson to bring their own bar & restaurant to Girard Avenue in La Jolla.Dubbed Roseacre, the 5,000 square-foot, incoming hospitality venue is poised to set a new standard for design-forward dining. Drawing inspiration from mid-century modern architectural style, Roseacre will captivate diners with its sleek aesthetics, floor-to-ceiling windows that seamlessly merge indoor and outdoor spaces, and a deep commitment to bringing the natural world inside. Expect an interior design featuring dark wood and lush plants, as well as an open kitchen and dining room for more than 170 diners. There will also be an upstairs Garden Bar featuring a sky light with views of the main dining room, as well as frequent live music performances and a 12 seat sushi bar.

The green awning marks the future home of Roseacre.
The name "Roseacre" pays homage to the historical legacy of the renowned La Jolla architect, Fred Liebhardt, whose family estate in Colorado bore the same name. Fred Liebhardt, once a devoted apprentice to legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright, left an indelible mark on La Jolla architectural history. Notably, Paul Basile and Jules Wilson, the visionaries behind Roseacre, reside together in a La Jolla residence crafted by Liebhardt himself. Although details are still very much in development, at Roseacre, expect to embark on a sensory journey where the spirit of mid-century modern design meets a dedication to uplifting the local culinary ecosystem through artisanal dishes and craft beverages.
"We are very excited about Roseacre, as an incredible experience for La Jolla and San Diego," explained Basile-Wilson Managing Partner Robert Wilson. "As you may know Paul and Jules are responsible for some of the most iconic restaurant and entertainment destinations in San Diego, as Roseacre will encompass many of the most incredible elements of experiential design from those projects and more."
Roseacre is anticipated to open in mid-to-late 2024 at 7766 Girard Avenue in San Diego's La Jolla. For more information, visit basilewilson.com.
