Witnesses reported there was an altercation in front of the restaurant between three high-school-age males who allegedly go or went to Olympian High School and were not eating at the restaurant. One of the individuals pulled a gun so the others ran through the restaurant and the assailant chased them into the eatery and opened fire. At least one individual that was not involved and was a patron of the restaurant was shot and an employee of the restaurant was also injured. The shooting resulted in a forced lockdown of the mall for approximately thirty minutes. Chula Vista police are still searching for the suspect.
"We believe there was one shooter and at least two people in that group," CVPD Lieutenant James Petray said during a news conference. "We have a group that was the suspect group, which we believe was approximately two people, potentially more."
