Outdoor Ice Skating Returns To San Diego For The Holiday Season

November 17, 2023

Get ready to lace up those skates because outdoor ice skating has returned to San Diego for the holiday season.

Sure we may not get "seasons" in San Diego, but that doesn't mean we can't celebrate the holidays with fun and festive wintry activities. In addition to several indoor rinks dotted around San Diego County, several al fresco ice rinks pop up around America's Finest City during the holiday months.

Skating by the Sea at Hotel Del Coronado benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation may be the most picturesque ice skating in the entire world. The beachside rink returns starting November 17 with special holiday hours. Skating costs $40 for 90 minutes including skate rentals, and the rink is open through January 7, 2024.
The Rady Children’s Hospital Ice Rink is now open within Liberty Station in San Diego's Point Loma. Skating costs $15 for kids and $20 per adult, which includes skate rentals and helmet. The Rady's Rink is open through January 7, 2024. More than $2 million has been raised from ticket sales, sponsors and donations to the Ice Rink in the past 20+ years.
Head out to San Diego's East County to whip around the Viejas Outlet Center Ice Rink, which is dubbed as "Southern California's largest outdoor ice skating rink." Now open from 3-10pm daily, entrance is $20 for kids 12 and under and $22 for teens and adults, with the price including 90 minutes of skating and skate rentals. The Viejas Outlet Rink is open through January 7, 2024.
Julian Farm and Orchard is celebrating the opening of its first-ever ice rink! The new rink is set to be the centerpiece of the "Holidays at the Farm" event, happening Fridays Saturdays and Sundays through January 1. Guests are invited to skate with friends and family and wind down after with a seasonal drink by the fire. The farm is open from 11am to 4pm with ice skating into the evening depending on the day. Ice skating costs $18 for ages 12 and up and $12 for ages 3-11. Helmet and skate rentals are $4 each and can be added on while booking. Reservations are required for skating and each skate session is 45 minutes and guests are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes prior to their reservation to allow for check-in, skate fitting and enjoyment of their full session.
In addition to the seasonal outdoor rinks discussed above, there are several permanent ice rinks in San Diego, including The Rinks at Poway ICE, UTC Ice Sports Center at Westfield UTC in La Jolla, San Diego Ice Arena in Mira Mesa, The Salvation Army Kroc Center Ice in Rolando, and IceTown in Carlsbad.
