Two Months After Fire Shutters Restaurant, Celebrity Chef Richard Blais's Ember & Rye Has No Reopening In Sight

November 9, 2023

It has been over two months since a kitchen fire forced the closure of celebrity chef Richard Blais's Ember & Rye restaurant in San Diego's North County, and as of now, there is no clear reopening date in sight.

As part of Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, Golf Club & Spa's $50 million renovation, San Diego-based chef Richard Blais opened Ember & Rye restaurant in March 2021, offering a menu centered around San Diego produce, locally-caught seafood, raw bar items, and dry-aged steaks. Chef Richard Blais is most known as the winner of Bravo’s Top Chef All-Stars in 2011, but has appeared in many cooking programs, including Iron Chef America, Chopped All-Stars, Top Chef, Master Chef, Guy's Grocery Games, Cutthroat Kitchen, Cooks vs Cons, and Next Level Chef

There was a reportedly a grease fire at Ember & Rye restaurant on Wednesday, August 30, that resulted in damage to the kitchen area. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the blaze. Initially, it was expected that the restaurant would reopen within a couple of weeks. However, over two months have passed since the incident, and the eatery remains closed without any updates. We reached out to a representative from the hotel who informed us there is currently no established timetable for the restaurant's reopening.

Ember & Rye is located at 7100 Aviara Resort Drive within the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, Golf Club & Spa in San Diego's North County community of Carlsbad. For more information, visit hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/california/park-hyatt-aviara-resort/sanpa.
