Bahn Thai will relocate in San Diego's University Heights after owners purchased the nearby building that last housed Johnston's for 9 months and Small Bar for over a decade.
Opened by Paul & Jinda Srimuang in September 2011, Bahn Thai has been a San Diego dining destination for authentic Thai cuisine since opening its quaint eatery in University Heights in 2011. In early 2020, the couple unveiled a second area location of Bahn Thai in the prime Hillcrest space previously occupied by Babycakes Bakery, which relocated in 2019. The Hillcrest location of Bahn Thai has been closed since May due to a fire on the property. That branch is currently listed as "temporarily closed," but ownership plans on reopening it next year
The Srimuangs recently purchased the 1,581 square-foot, 1929-era building that last housed the very short-lived Johnston's and Small Bar before that, which sits only 150 feet from their original restaurant. The building was sold through Next Wave Commercial for $2,330,000, which equates to $1,474 per square-foot. The liquor license is being sold separate of the building, meaning Bahn Thai will not be serving alcohol. Next year, Bahn Thai will relocate to their new, far more sizeable space.
Bahn Thai is expected to move to 4628 Park Boulevard in San Diego's University Heights in mid-2024. For more information, visit bahnthai.net.
