Los Angeles-based modern Mexican restaurant chain Tocaya Organica has permanently shuttered its location in San Diego's Westfield UTC mall in La Jolla.
From LA-based The Madera Group hospitality company, Tocaya Organica opened its first San Diego location at 751 5th Avenue in the Gaslamp Quarter in June 2018 but shuttered that 6,000 square-foot branch two years later in the height of the pandemic. The modern Mexican, health-focused concept also launched San Diego locations within Westfield UTC in La Jolla and One Paseo in Del Mar. San Diego-based chef Rich Sweeney took the position of Area Culinary Director for Tocaya Organica in spring 2019, but that position was eventually eliminated.
The Westfield UTC outpost of Tocaya Organica closed after service this past weekend. There is no word on who will take over the space within the La Jolla outdoor mall. The branch at 3725 Paseo Place, Suite 1070, within One Paseo in Del Mar remains operating under normal hours with no plan to close.
