The team behind San Diego's Ambrogio15 restaurants has shuttered its Ambrogio15 Enoteca wine tasting room and market in La Jolla.
Milan-turned-San Diego residents Giacomo Pizzigoni, Andrea Burrone and Luca Salvi opened the flagship Ambrogio15 on Turquoise Street in San Diego's North Pacific Beach community in August 2016. The team expanded in 2018 with a stall within the Little Italy Food Hall and also opened a micro-version of Ambrogio15 within Del Mar Highlands Town Center's 20,000 square-foot, multi-restaurant food hall The Sky Deck.
The Ambrogio crew launched new concept Semola Artisan Express Pasta in the Little Italy Food Hall in 2019 but relocated the concept to the indoor/outdoor La Jolla space left dormant by the sudden and inexplicable closure of PrepKitchen. In late 2022, Semola was rebranded into Ambrogio by Acquerello, a tasting menu-exclusive fine-dining destination helmed by a Michelin-starred Italian chef. The company is also opening an Ambrogio15 restaurant at Biltmore Fashion Park in Phoenix, AZ.
"After thoughtful consideration and strategic planning, we are thrilled to announce the relocation of the Ambrogio15 Enoteca store to the Pacific Beach location, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Ambrogio15 family," read the announcement on the company's Instagram page. "From now on, Ambrogio15 PB will take over the retail Organic Italian Wines and Gourmet Groceries once displayed at the Enoteca, and we are also unveiling our brand-new Online Store, offering delectable flavors and artisanal products to be purchased online."
To start the new year, Ambrogio15 Enoteca closed in its 1,200-square-foot space on Pearl Street in La Jolla. With the closure, ownership plans to abandon that location and install parts of the wine room and grocery shop within its flagship Pacific Beach restaurant.
"The Online Store promises a seamless and convenient shopping experience for imported goodies, organic wines, cold cuts, and cheeses, featuring exclusive promotions, discounts, and special offers ~ note that we’re only offering pick-up orders at this moment," continued the announcement. "For those who relish the in-person experience, the PB location will also feature a curated selection of the most beloved products, allowing clients to enjoy the shopping experience at their convenience. As part of the relocation, Ambrogio15 Pacific Beach will now host guided Wine Tastings with food pairing every month, exploring exclusive wines from different regions of Italy guided by our sommelier."
