The longtime owner of Pacifica Del Mar restaurant is opening a new French cafe, as well as rooftop bar & restaurant dubbed Communion, in San Diego's Mission Hills neighborhood.
Jacquee Renna-Downing was born and raised in San Diego and once-owned Pacifica Del Mar restaurant with her late husband Kipp Downing. Jacquee currently owns two restaurants in the Coachella Valley - La Quinta Cliffhouse and Pacifica Seafood in Palm Desert. Renna-Downing, who is a former registered nurse that "didn’t agree with the order to shut down restaurants" during COVID-19, actually made waves when during the pandemic she required her restaurant staff at her restaurants to be vaccinated or provide two negative tests per week.
Renna-Downing has been chosen to operate two new eateries at The Sassan, an incoming 54-unit, pink apartment building being constructed on Washington in Goldfinch in San Diego's Mission Hills. Paradis will be a Paris-inspired cafe sited on the buildings base floor, which will offer a menu of coffee and tea drinks, and pastries, which will transition into a martini-fueled tapas restaurant at night.
Communion will be a rooftop bar & restaurant with expansive views of downtown San Diego and the bay. Expect seating for more than 100 diners and a globally-inspired menu of coastal cuisine. The space will also have a full bar with a secondary emphasis on mocktails.
Communion and Paradis are expected to open by year's end at 901 West Washington Street in San Diego's Mission Hills community.
