Lou Lou’s Jungle Room live music venue & event space will unveil this week on the base floor of San Diego's historic The Lafayette Hotel.
This weekend, The Lafayette will open its onsite live music venue and event space dubbed Lou Lou's Jungle Room in the basement area that was last known as Mississippi Room and was where the "You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling" scene was filmed for Top Gun. Designed to look like the bougie bastard of Rainforest Cafe, Lou Lou's will kick off with concerts by Thee Sacred Souls on Saturday, January 20 and ElectricLouieLand on Sunday, January 21. The 580-person event space will host frequent live acts on its 1940s-era, clamshell stage, with musicians booked by The Casbah founder Tim Mays.
Lou Lou's will also eventually operate as the hotel's onsite supper club. A precursor to what to expect when Consortium Holdings reopens Starlite in Middletown later this year, expect a modern steakhouse-style, price-fixed menu from Chef Ted Smith, who previously worked at CH's Craft & Commerce and Born & Raised. From the bar, there will be a short menu with a variety of signature cocktails like an espresso martini and gin and tonics.
In addition to finishing its projects at The Lafayette and renovating Starlite, Consortium Holdings has also begun construction of Leila, a 5,000+ square-foot Persian bar & restaurant opening later this year on 30th Street in North Park. At Leila, expect a Middle Eastern, Lebanese and Persian-inspired fusion menu pumping out from an open kitchen helmed by Consortium's new Director of Culinary Operations Perfecte Rocher. From the central bar, there will be a focus on Middle Eastern spirits, including Aragh sagi, which is a raisin-based spirit known as Iranian moonshine or "Persian Vodka", and Arak, a distilled Levantine spirit of the anise drinks family.
Lou Lou's Jungle Room will grand open on Saturday, January 20, at 2223 El Cajon Boulevard in San Diego's North Park/University Heights. For more information, visit lafayettehotelsd.com.
