Popular Area Pop-Up Cubano Kings Opens First Brick-And-Mortar Restaurant In San Diego's Ocean Beach

February 15, 2024

A popular area pop-up known for making some of the best Cuban sandwiches in town, Cubano Kings has opened its first brick-and-mortar eatery in San Diego's Ocean Beach.

Founded by Jose Zazueta Cruz, Cubano Kings has been operating as a pop-up food vendor at San Diego farmers markets for the past couple years, serving a menu of Cuban sandwiches made with a formula and recipe dates back to the 1980s. Cubano Kings recently took over the space last occupied by OB Meat Company to open sandwich shop and cafe.
Now open on Newport Avenue in San Diego's Ocean Beach, Cubano Kings serves a menu of traditional and inventive Cuban sandwiches. Expect items like the Classic Cuban with mojo marinated pork, fried ham, cheese, mustard, pickles and bread pressed and toasted on a plancha grill; the J.A.M.B.A. Cubano with mojo marinated pork, fried ham, pineapple, mango, cilantro, red onion, and hoison sauce; and Ropa Vieja Bowl with slow braised beef, fire roasted bell peppers, olives, rice, black beans and plantains. The concept also serves an array of Cuban coffee drinks.

Cubano Kings is now open at 4853 Newport Avenue in San Diego's Ocean Beach. For more information, follow Cubano Kings on Instagram.
