A large mountain lion has been spotted roaming the streets of North San Diego County, including peering through the door of a local cinema.
A representative from Oceanside Police Department has confirmed recent sightings of a mountain lion prowling the streets of San Diego's North County city of Oceanside throughout this week, even photographed peering through the window of Regal Theater cinemas.
The mountain lion was seen in numerous areas between Monday and Wednesday evenings, including at the 200 and 300 block of North Coast Highway near the Oceanside City Hall, 1100 block of South Coast Highway, State Route 76 at Rancho Del Oro near Ivey Ranch Park, and Regal Cinemas on Mission Boulevard in downtown Oceanside. The mountain lion was captured by surveillance cameras walking through a courtyard near Oceanside City Hall, crossing a busy street, and sited within a parking garage by city hall.
Oceanside olice have notified the California Department of Fish and Wildlife of the presence of the cougar in the city, according to OPD public affairs. Anyone who sees a mountain lion is urged not to approach or otherwise disturb it and to immediately report the sighting to the Oceanside PD at 760.435.4911, or call 911 if the animal is near a school or park, or seems aggressive.
