From the team behind Steamy Piggy, Formoosa, Flama Llama, and Bok Bok Dok restaurants comes incoming concept VietNom, a Vietnamese-fusion eatery opening soon in San Diego's University City.
In 2017, Franklin Chou-Chan launched dumpling-focused Chinese restaurant Steamy Piggy in the plaza that houses the original Tajima off bustling Convoy Street in San Diego's Kearny Mesa. In 2022, Chou-Chan unveiled Formoosa Tawaiianese restaurant in the Kearny Mesa plaza that also houses RakiRaki and O’Brien’s Pub, then launched Flama Llama Latin American eatery, also off Convoy. Last year, he opened Bok Bok Dok in the space that long housed Embargo Grill/Little Cay OB within Midway Towne Center in Point Loma.
Chou-Chan's next project is opening VietNom restaurant in the space that last housed a branch of Mochinut within Renaissance Towne Center shopping plaza in UTC. The restaurant will offer a menu of traditional and modern takes on Vietnamese cuisine. Expect a variety of pho noodle soups, side dishes like spring rolls and crullers, and specialty drinks ranging from thai tea to Vietnamese coffee and even a sparkling yuzu lemonade.
VietNom will soft open on March 15 at 8895 Towne Center Drive, Suite 109, San Diego's University City. For more information, visit vietnomsd.com.
