Los Angeles' iconic Randy's Donuts is ready to unveil its second area location, this time in San Diego's South Bay.
Founded in 1952 and best known for its 33-foot giant donut sculpture on the roof of its original location, Randy's Donuts has been featured in such movies and television programs as HBO's Entourage, Iron Man 2, Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles, and the music video for Red Hot Chili Pepper's "Californication," to name a few.
The first San Diego location of Randy's Donuts opened last May within Stonecrest Plaza in Kearny Mesa. The second area branch will unveil in early June in the space that currently houses Sadie's Hand-Crafted Ice Cream in the Bonita area of Chula Vista. Like other branches, customers will find over 60 different varieties of donuts along with Randy’s Rounds (Randy’s Donuts much larger version of a donut hole) and more, as well as a large selection of coffee drinks. The new San Diego locations will also sell Sadie's Handcrafted Mexican Ice Cream and Sadie's Sandwiches, which is a fresh Randy's donut stuffed with ice cream.
Randy’s Donuts began franchising domestically in summer of 2019, and the company has a local franchise development deal with San Diego native Emilio Tamez that includes 10 stores to open around San Diego County in the coming years. Tamez also owns and operates Taqueria Revolución and is the founder of the Sadie's Hand-Crafted Ice Cream in Bonita where his new location is opening. Mark Kelegian, a Los Angeles-area entrepreneur and former attorney, purchased Randy's in 2015 to franchise the concept with his family.
For its grand opening, which coincides with National Donut Day, Randy's Donuts is giving the first 10 customers free donuts for a year. Other patrons will get a complimentary glazed donut when they visit from 6am to noon.
Randy's Donuts will open on Friday, June 7 at 3001 Bonita Road, Suite 200, in San Diego's South Bay city of Chula Vista. For more information, visit randysdonuts.com.
