May 26, 2024Year Of The Fortune is a brand new Chinese New Year-inspired cocktail bar now open in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter.
From retired veteran and native San Diegan Yusra Gharram, Year Of The Fortune is a new cocktail bar located in the frequently-revolving space that most reently housed Coastal Cantina in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. The interior is outfitted with parasol Chinese umbrellas and sky lanterns and serves an array of themed cocktails inspired by the Chinese New Year zodiac signs.
"I have a background in culinary arts, but recently I've become more of a concept connoisseur," explained Gharram. "I designed a cocktail menu called 'Year of the Fortune,' which intertwines with the Chinese New Year. This year is the Year of the Dragon, so the location features dragons and other elements that signify the Chinese New Year. I had just 16 days to bring this concept to life with a minimal budget and little help. I aimed to create a bar where everyone feels comfortable, catering to all demographics. It was amazing to see the diversity and the mix of people from all walks of life on opening day."
Highlights from Year Of The Fortune's cocktail menu includes Breath of the Dragon, with Rio De Valle tequila, yuzu juice, dragon fruit syrup, Curcaco and dehydrated lime; and Last Stop Before Shibuya with Suntori whiskey, yuzu, lemon, simple syrup and egg white. The business doesn't currently offer food, although they do hope to introduce a selection of American-Chinese comfort cuisine in the near future.
Year Of The Fortune is located at 431 E Street in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. For more information, follow Year Of The Fortune on Instagram and check out the cocktail menu below.
