Indiana-Based Parlor Doughnuts Replacing Long Story Short In San Diego's North Park

June 5, 2024

Indiana-based small batch donut and coffee chain, Parlor Doughnuts, has taken over the space last occupied but the short-lived Long Story Short restaurant in North Park to open its second San Diego location.

Parlor Doughnuts was founded in Evansville, IN, by Darrick Hayden and Josh Tudela in February 2019, and the company now has many locations around the country with even more in development. The first San Diego branch opened in the North County city of Oceanside in October 2020. There was also an outpost in Solana Beach, but that location closed late last year.

A new San Diego location of Parlor Doughnuts will open in the unit previously occupied by Long Story Short restaurant and Little Thief Wine Bar before that on University Avenue in North Park. Parlor's donuts are called "layered", because the dough is layered with butter, making their product flakier than the average doughnut, crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside.
Parlor Doughnuts offers a selection of over 20 donut flavors, including vegan, gluten-free, keto-friendly, and dog donut varieties, as well as coffee drinks, teas, breakfast toasts & tacos, sandwiches, acai bowls, juice and kombucha. Expect flavors like French Toast, Maple Pecan, Maple Bacon, Honey Glazed, Chocolate, Cookies n' Cream, Peanut Butter Cup, Coconut Cream Filled, Strawberry Shortcake, and more.

The former Long Story Short unit was previously slated to become California's first branch of Detroit's iconic Jet's Pizza, but that deal fell through. Jet's Pizza is now hoping to secure a new space to open a branch in San Diego.

Parlor Doughnuts is anticipated to open by this fall at 3017 University Avenue in San Diego's North Park. For more information, visit parlordoughnuts.com.
