Mr. Moto Pizza House Closes Its Doors In San Diego's Kearny Mesa

June 28, 2024

After less than a year in business, Mr. Moto Pizza House has closed the doors on its Convoy Street location in San Diego's Kearny Mesa.

Mr. Moto Pizza was founded in Pacific Beach in 2015 by San Diego native Gibran Fernandez, who began his career in the pizza business at the age of 23 working for La Jolla's Pizza On Pearl, owned by his uncle Aram Baloyan. Baloyan also has ownership interests in The Taco Stand chain and La Jolla's Himitsu sushi restaurant.

Mr. Moto Pizza House has since expanded to locations in North Park, Point LomaSeaport Village, Little Italy, Mission Valley, and the Arcadia area of Phoenix, AZ. The La Jolla location did not fare well and was rebranded back to Pizza On Pearl. The Ocean Beach and Encinitas locations also both closed.

The Kearny Mesa branch of Mr. Moto opened in summer 2023 in the space previously occupied by Red Moon Noodle House Chinese restaurant within the small Convoy Street plaza that also houses RakiRaki, O'Brien's Pub, Crab Hub and The Taco Stand. There is no word on why the location has shuttered or what will come of the space.
