Internet celebrity Sam The Cooking Guy has unveiled Basta Italian restaurant in San Diego's Little Italy.
In early May, Graze By Sam The Cooking Guy restaurant ended its four year inside Piazza Della Famiglia in San Diego's Little Italy. The 1,600 square-foot space has since been converted to become a full-service Italian restaurant called Basta Cocktails + Italian Inspired Eats.
Meaning "enough is enough" in Italian, Basta offers classic East Coast Italian cuisine reinvented with a Sam The Cooking Guy twist, as well as a menu of wine, beer and Aperol cocktails. The kitchen is helmed on a daily basis by culinary director Gavin Mills, who once worked at San Francisco's Michelin-starred One Lombard Street restaurant. Expect dishes like bone marrow garlic bread, sardines with Calabrian chili and gremolata, chicken liver mousse, crispy herb gnocchi, handmade cavatelli with Santa Barbara uni, and ricotta tortellini with asparagus, lemon, and crème fraiche.
In 2018, Mike DiNorcia's Grit & Grain Collective teamed up with San Diego's own YouTube personality Sam "The Cooking Guy" Zien and opened the 4,685 square-foot Little Italy Food Hall within Piazza Della Famiglia in the heart of Little Italy. In early 2020, Little Italy Food Hall ownership expanded into the space directly across Piazza Della Famiglia and opened Graze By Sam The Cooking Guy. Despite the recent opening of Graze, both the Basta space and Little Italy Food Hall unit are currently listed for sale by a local commercial real estate brokerage.
Basta is now open at 550 West Date Street in San Diego's Little Italy. For more information, visit bastasd.com.
