San Diego's Michelin-Recognized LOLA 55 Modern Taqueria To Open Minimalistic Offshoot Inside Westfield UTC Mall

June 18, 2024

San Diego's Michelin-recognized LOLA 55 Tacos + Cocktails is opening an offshoot dubbed L55 Tacos & More inside Westfield UTC Mall.

LOLA 55 was founded by Tijuana-born Frank Vizcarra, who followed a career as a professional soccer player with gigs as a longtime executive at McDonald's and then as an investor/advisor for Tender Greens. LOLA 55 is a family-run, fast-casual bar & restaurant named after Vizcarra's mother. After more than three years of development, the flagship 3,200-square-foot LOLA 55 opened within IDEA1 apartments in San Diego's East Village in August 2018. Last year, a second location of LOLA 55 opened within La Costa Towne Center in Carlsbad.

LOLA 55 ownership has taken over the 2,800 square-foot space last occupied by Tocaya Organica inside Westfield UTC mall to open a streamlined spinoff named L55 Tacos & More. The eatery will offer a menu of the company's famed signature tacos made on homemade tortillas, as well as new items like burritos, salads, bowls, seasonal aqua frescas, and low-alcohol cocktails. The incoming restaurant will be developed by Chef Daniel Soto, who previously worked at Mexico's City's world-renown Pujol restaurant.

Over its six year tenure, LOLA 55 has won the hearts of local food lovers and critics alike, earning the highly coveted Bib Gourmand distinction from California's Michelin Guide and being named as one of "The Best Mexican Restaurants in San Diego in MICHELIN Guide California." It's been no secret that LOLA 55 ownership intends to expand the popular Mexican eatery with more locations to open around San Diego County and beyond.

L55 Tacos & More is expected to open later this year at 4301 La Jolla Village Drive, Suite 2003, inside San Diego's Westfield UTC mall. For more information, visit lola55.com.
