Solomon Bagel & Donuts Shutters In San Diego's North Park

July 1, 2024

San Diego's four-year-old Solomon Bagels & Donuts has closed its doors in San Diego's North Park.

Taiwanese immigrant Jeffrey Wang spent nearly two decades honing his bagel craft in New York City before moving to Portland, Oregon to launch his mini-empire of five Kettleman Bagel Company locations, which began in 2006 and sold to bagel behemoth Einstein Bagels in 2011. Wang moved to San Diego over a decade ago after he decided to retire, but his passion for baking remained strong. Identifying a need for traditional East Coast-style bagels in San Diego, Wang decided to pursue the opening of a specialized eatery in North Park.

After years in development, Solomon Bagels & Donuts opened in April 2020 during the early days of the pandemic. The eatery quickly gained a loyal following for its boiled-then-baked bagels in a wide variety of flavors, as well as sandwiches, salads, soups, fresh-baked donuts, breads, pastries, and coffee creations. It is believed that Wang is dealing with health issues that precipitated the eatery's closure. The business has been listed for sale for several months.

Solomon Bagels & Donuts is located at 4152 30th Street in San Diego's North Park neighborhood. For more information, visit solomonbagels.com.
