The hospitality group behind San Diego restaurants like Greystone Steakhouse, Saltwater, and Farmers Bottega has repurposed their Breakfast & Bubbles restaurant in Hillcrest/North Park to become XOXO Retro Neighborhood Diner.
The longtime former Café On Park space in Hillcrest has a new tenant in Breakfast & Bubbles, a brunch-focused eatery by day and an oyster and champagne house at night from the hospitality group behind San Diego restaurants like Greystone Steakhouse, Saltwater, and Farmers Bottega.
After a 25 year tenure on Park Boulevard in Hillcrest, Café On Park closed in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The expansive industrial space was then taken over by San Diego Dining Group, the parent organization behind many area restaurants, including Greystone The Steakhouse, Osetra The Fishhouse, Osteria Panevino, Saltwater, Rusticucina, The Butcher's Cut, Truffle, Allegro, Farmer's Table, and the brand new Vincenzo's Cucina. The hospitality company, which was founded by Sicilian-born chefs Vincenzo Loverso and longtime partner Alessandro Minutella, also partnered with former Candelas on the Bay owner Alberto Mestre for Breakfast & Bubbles.
Breakfast & Bubbles recently shuttered following alleged water damage and the 3,000 square-foot space has now been transformed into XOXO Retro American Diner, which advertises itself as "a nostalgic nod to '90s American diners with a contemporary twist." The restaurant offers dinner throughout the week with an all-day menu in the form of a "Breakfast & Bubbles" pop-up during the weekend.
XOXO Retro Neighborhood Diner is now open at 3831 Park Boulevard on the border of Hillcrest and North Park. For more information, visit xoxosandiego.com.
