A chef from a two Michelin-starred restaurant has created the menu for 858 Burger, a new fast-casual eatery now open in the space that last housed Classic Burger in San Diego's La Jolla.
When Classic Burger closed this past June, fans bemoaned the loss of one of the city's better burger spots. But the Pearl Street space on the outskirts of La Jolla Village was quickly scooped by Andres Brambila, who also has ownership interests in nearby restaurants, Pizza On Pearl pizzeria and La Corriente Cocina Del Pacifico Mexican seafood restaurant.For 858 Burger, Brambila secured the assistance of Chef Miguel Mendoza, who previously worked in the kitchen of Mexico City's two Michelin-starred Quintonil restaurant. Chef Mendoza has created a simple menu of flat-top griddle smash burgers, including the namesake 858 Burger featuring white cheddar cheese, bacon & onion jam and umami sauce. There is also a selection of fries, onion rings, milkshakes, desserts and soft beverages.
